Adobe AfterEffects

I was first introduced to Adobe AfterEffects in the Summer of 2016 when I took a course on visual effects at Exceptional Minds. AfterEffects is a computer program that specializes in visual effects, motion graphics, and compositing that is mainly used in the post-production process of anything ranging from filmmaking to video games to television production and more.

AfterEffects has allowed me to do crazy things like place myself in whatever environment I want, jump on the big red balls from Wipeout in front of a green or blue screen, as well as shoot lasers from one of my hands, briefly cast myself in a movie scene, have a movie clip projected onto my t-shirt, all of which can be seen in the reel here. Plus, AfterEffects has even allowed me to use downloadable footage from the internet that was physically shot in front of a green screen, as well as computer-generated footage that is in front of a bright green background to resemble an actual green screen, that I could place inside any of my AfterEffects projects. The way to remove a green screen background inside AfterEffects is to select ‘Effect’ at the top menu, then select ‘Keying’, and then ‘Keylight 1.2’. There are more advanced settings you can experiment with to enhance your creation.

A lot of the effects that you see in my reel such as the fire and explosions, as well as the electricity and smoke, and even the Star Wars tie fighter, sci-fi aircraft and robot, came from an online vault that is stored on the computers at Exceptional Minds. Inside the vault is a whole library full of visual effects used for various projects.

Anyway it was very fun to take a course at Exceptional Minds on visual effects, as well as to learn the basics of Adobe AfterEffects and I could not be more pleased with the end results that I was able to create!
