Vince Staples

Vince Staples Rap Artist

This is a digital painting of Vince Staples. I created this piece of rap art because I like Vince Staples’ music, and I’ve been listening to him since I was in high school, which was when he really became popular. I have seen him live in concert two times, once when he was opening up for Tyler The Creator.

This piece of rap art definitely captures the image of Vince Staples, despite that Vince is not seen rapping, and that the picture is just a portrait of himself. Looking closely, there are several imperfect areas where the picture may tend to look ragged, such as the shadows on the sides of his face and neck look a bit scribbled and are not smooth and cleaned up enough, as well as the dark outline of his hoodie. Even the shadows that are supposed to indicate the folds in Vince’s hoodie don’t look enough like actual folds that you would normally see in clothing, and instead look more jagged. Also, his skin tones don’t blend together as much to create a gradient, as well as the shades of his hoodie, but still create good dissonance. The base colors for both his face and hoodie were painted with a round-pointed brush in Photoshop and were layered with hues and tints of his skin tones with the same type of brush, which is why the brush strokes don’t look as smooth and clean as they can be.

It is not clear where and when the reference image used for this digital painting was taken.
